Who is this?

I think I might have a stumper - my husband declared this one "mean." I'm waiting for you all to prove him wrong!

Young Eleanor?

No, Eleanor wasn't even born when this picture was taken (so it is pre-1884).

Ellen Arthur?

Is is Chester Arthur's daughter? I can't remember her name, but the photo would be about the time that Arthur was president, and he had a teenage daughter.

This isn't either Arthur. This is a presidential sister-in-law (so a First Lady's sister). The picture is earlier than Arthur's presidency, probably by about 15-20 years. I don't have a specific date, but my guess, based on age of the person, is the 1860s.

mary lincolns sister emily todd helm

No, it isn't Mary Lincoln's sister. Let's see...a clue off that one. This First Lady's husband did serve in the Civil War (they were married after the war).

And something that should really help: The woman in the picture (the sister) went on a grand tour with her sister (the First Lady) and the letters were published.

Ida Mckinley's sister Mary (Pina) Saxton Barber

I had a feeling that last clue would give it away! Yes, this is Mary "Pina" Saxton Barber, who was Ida Saxton McKinley's younger sister. I'll be posting later this week on why I choose her for this week's guessing game!
