Martha Washington’s Booke of Cookery by Karen Hess
I saw this book and was interested because I like cooking and I like Martha Washington. The issue here is that this really has nothing to do with Martha. This is an excellent book for looking at early American cooking, but really has nothing to offer on Martha herself. All this is a copy of a book Martha owned, but as the introduction stated, this book was probably “dated” to Martha and more of a family heirloom than a working cook book by Martha’s time. If you are interested in early American culinary studies, this is an excellent book, but if you were hoping for a meeting of that the Martha, not so much.
